Basics of Parenting
I’m sure that all parents have heard the saying, it’s not easy to be a parent. Almost no one in anyway is qualified to be a parent when they first become one. Only thru trial and error do they become good parents and raise their children well. In order to raise a child well, one has to consider many different things that contribute toward development of the child, even the toys they play with. (to see my article on this subject go to http://www.postyouradvert.com/Articles.asp
There are three basic component to parenting. The first one, and the most important one is discipline. This includes teaching the child what he or she is allow to do as well as teaching them what they are forbidden, as well as the difference between right and wrong. This is a huge responsibility because if you repress the child too much,he or she will grow up timid, afraid to try new things, but, on the other hand, if you let your child run amok, with no supervision, he or she will not learn the basics of rules and will likely have trouble with authority later in life. A perfect balance is needed and is rarely obtained. A parent also has the responsibility of teaching their children about respecting other peoples property. It is very important to remember that our actions speak louder than our words because if children grow up to love and respect us then they will want to grow up just like us, so we can tell them this or that but if they see us doing what we tell them not to, they think it is really ok.
A parent should also teach their children about health. This is something that parents rarely fail to do, as is apparent with the phrase, eat your vegetables. Instead of trying to force your child to eat their vegetables it may be a better approach to explain what foods are bad for them and what effects bad foods have on the body. Explain the benefits of being healthy and that it is not healthy to become obese. Obesity is a huge problem in the modern world, not only because of the wrong foods being eaten, but also due to the lack of exercise, which is due to the amount of time spent in front of the video console. Teach them to have a healthy lifestyle.
Now that you have the morals and the health taken care of, you should think about what you will do to develop the mind of the child. Parents have always read to their children at early ages, and for good reason. It is probably the best way to fill a child’s head with information. Unfortunately reading has declined in recent years. You should make every effort to break this trend. Read to your child on a daily basis, preferably multiple times per day.
Parenting is never an easy thing, and to do it effectively you must be aware of so many different factors. You can find support in the form of magazines, books or groups and classes. Think about everything that goes towards the development of a healthy, intelligent, well rounded human being.
